The top of the table clash between Aziz Damani and Soroti City did little to affect the table standings in the National Women’s T20 League after the two sides split the wins on Saturday.

The two sides went into Saturday games level on points and only separated by net run rate; it stayed that way after their double header encounter yesterday at the Jinja SS Cricket Oval.

Aziz Damani drew first blood with a 7 wicket win in the morning game, but Soroti City had a perfect response for Yusuf Nanga’s troops as they beat the side by 4 wickets in the afternoon one.

In the morning game that was reduced to 15 Overs, Immaculate Nakisuyi was named the Player of the Match. ‘Benzo’ was miles ahead of her peers in that game, scoring an unbeaten 42 and picking four wickets.

Thanks to her, Soroti City were restricted to only 68 runs while losing nine wickets. Nakisuyi led the run hunt that was concluded inside the 13th Over.

Consy Aweko picked two wickets as Damani ensured only Kevin Awino (23) and Evelyn Anyipo (19) scored in double digits.

Wilfred Ogwang and his team will rue the poor bowling that was exhibited in this game. Only Irene Alumo had dismissals (2). Sarah Akiteng bowled two Overs but conceded 15 runs while Janet Mbabazi suffered 11 runs from the one Over she bowled, and from the three she bowled, Phionah Kulume was hit 21.

It was a wanting display from Soroti’s bowling unit, but they regrouped, and had the defending champions squeezed in the afternoon game.

Damani was bowled out with Alumo and Patricia Apolot each plucking two wickets. And each of Soroti bowlers had at least a wicket.

Merciline Adhiambo, a Kenyan international and Nakisuyi were the only Damani players that had double digits, 26 and 22 respectively.

Adhiambo claimed three wickets, but Soroti won the nail-biting game with the second last ball that was faced by Christine Anayo who took it for one run- the winning run.

Awino notched 42 in this one while Mbabazi had 18 and Kulume 13.

Proscovia Alako went missing in action in both games. In this game, she was bowled out for a duck by Alumo with the very first ball she faced. In the morning game, Alako managed just two runs.

The result means both sides have now accumulated ten points, but Damani stay top of the table due to a superior net run rate.
