2024 WAFCON Q: Crested Cranes fall to Algeria in Njeru.

Uganda women National football team, the Crested Cranes defeated by Algeria in the first leg of first round of 2024 Women African Cup of Nations Qualiers played at Astro turf of Njeru Technical center.

Two second half goals from Chabel Imane and Habiba Karchouni were enough to down Ayub Khalifan’s coached side.

Chabel scored from a corner kick with a beautiful header to fire vistors into lead in 47th minute and 3 minutes later Habiba rolled Crested Cranes defenders and looped the ball over Vanessa Karungi to extend their lead.

Fauzia Najjemba converted from a penalty kick after Amina Nababi had been pulled inside the forbidden area to reduce the score to 2-1 in 89th minute.

Algeria carry first leg advantage ahead of the return leg slated to take place in Oran next week and need to avoid defeat in order to make it the final qualifying round were they play the winner between Ethiopia and Burundi.

Next edition final tournament will take place in Morocco for the second consecutive time.
