Uganda’s ambassador in CAF Champions league, Vipers Sports Club will have to tussle it with Sudan giants Al Hilal Omdurman in Competition’s preliminary round, following the draws that were conducted at CAF headquarters in Cairo Egypt.
Vipers SC will be trying their luck in Caf Champions league for the third time, having failed on their last two attempts to reach in the group stages.
In 2010 Vipers SC as Bunamwaya didn’t enter into the competition due to financial constraints despite winning the league that time.
Their first attempt into the competition was in 2016, when Enyimba International of Nigeria knocked out them on preliminary round.
And their second attempt was in 2018 when they knocked Al Hilal compatriot and arch rivals El Merrikh on the preliminary round and only to be stopped on the first round by Algerian Constantaine.
Al Hial has got a reach history in the competition compared to Vipers SC having played at finals two times in 1987 and 1992, on both occasions as runners up.
Al Hilal were stopped at the group stages of the ongoing CAF Champions league 2019/20 which is on the final stage and their group had the finalist Al Ahly.
The winner on aggregate will face the winner between Mauritania outfit FC Nouadhibou and Asante Kotoko of Ghana in the first round.
The Venoms will host the first leg on the weekend of 27-29 November 2020 and return leg being played on the weekend of 4-6 December 2020.
Al Hill is a home to Uganda Cranes second choice custodian Salim Jamal Magoola.
Meanwhile in other fixtures, Simba SC of Tanzania will take on Plateau, Gor Mahia of Kanya against APR FC of Rwanda.
The clubs that received a bye on the preliminary round includes; Al Ahly, Zamalek, Wydad Athletic Club, Raja Athletic Club, TP Mazembe, Esperance, AS Vita, Horoya AC , Agosto and Mamelodi Sundowns and will start on the first round.
