Vipers SC Patron Lawrence Mulindwa has advised Fufa and the UPL management to waste no time but declare Express FC winners of the 2020/21 season.

Mulindwa said this while speaking to Sanyuka TV on Monday live from St. Mary’s stadium, Kitende

The season was suspended due to a presidential directive that ordered a 42 days lockdown on many sectors including sports.

Fufa recently revealed talks with the government over permission to complete the season but Mulindwa says the 75% rule should be invoked just like it was applied last season campaign to declare Vipers champions.

“There is no need to talk to the Prime Minister,” he said in reference to Fufa talks with the government. “Even if she allows, will she the one responsible for removing Covid19?

“How do you trust those players playing against each other? Even if you say there is vaccination, it’s not treatment so there can’t be assurance. And with poverty in our clubs, which one are ready to do regular testing? We shouldn’t risk the life of Ugandans for the sake of that thing called ‘The Cup’.

“Clubs should be left to go prepare for the next season instead of wasting time on the current campaign.

I want to advise the Federation and the people at UPL just as they applied the 75% rule last season, they should do it now. In fact they should have done it yesterday to declare Express FC Champions of this current season. They shouldn’t waste time. The rule is very clear and should be applied.

Mulindwa also believes that declaring the winner helps in preparation for continental football and a club to represent the nation needs enough time to prepare.

“Anyone going to represent us on the continent will need ample time to prepare, buying players, looking for funds, the earlier we know who is going for champions the better.”

With no other stadium approved to host international matches but St. Mary’s stadium, Kitende, Mulindwa promised to offer the stadium to the Red Eagles just as it was last season with KCCA FC.

“We shall host them at St Mary’s, we have no problem with that, this is an international facility that has been used by the national team and KCCA FC, and we would not have a problem with hosting Express FC.”

Express FC lead the current table standings with 58 points, one and two better than second and third placed URA and Vipers respectively.
