UPDF FC pummeled Busoga United in a convincing 3-0 win to go top of the log on match-day one.
Brian Kayanja, Brian Kalumba and an own goal from Douglas Muganga handed coach Kefa Kisala a needed win to get the campaign off to a positive start.
Both sides failed to find the back of the net in the first half before Busoga’s resistance was broken at the hour-mark – Kayanja nodded home from a retrieved delivery when Ali Kimera had punched far a corner kick.
The hosts doubled the lead from the spot after substitute Ezekiel Katende was brought down in the area for Kalumba to send the keeper a wrong way and double the lead.
UPDF put the game to bed in the 75th minute when Muganga connected in his own net in an attempt to block Pius Mubiru’s cross.
The Army side had plenty of chances, with most falling on Kalumba who headed out Mubiru’s cross, saw his freekick finger tipped by Kimera and fluffed a close range chance over the frame.
The Visitors on the other hand, saw Sharif Kimbowa’s header saved by goalkeeper Yusuf Wasswa in the opening stanza but never put up threatening attacks until the second half.
Franco Onen was denied from a long range effort, Paul Ssekulima who ran free in a tight angle unleashed his effort across the goal mouth while Hakim Magombe’s corner kick almost beat Yusuf Wasswa on goal.
Magombe, a left back, created some chances with his swinging crosses but Busoga United forwards were not equal to the efforts.
