Kavuma secured a spot at the Tokyo Olympics through the IOC boxing task force rankings. He represented Uganda at the Rabat Africa Games in 2019, attaining rank 2 in the middle weight category.
He also earned a ticket to the 2018 Gold Coast Commonwealth Games but unfortunately lost to England’s Luke McCormack in the Men’s 64kg round of 32. Ssemujju travelled to Tokyo along with other 25 athletes including Atuhaire Ambala Ogola (20) representing Uganda in Swimming, Kirabo Namutebi, and Catherine Nanziri the first Uganda woman to qualify for the Olympics to mention but a few.
The National Boxing team, the Bombers earlier in April this year intensified their preparations for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics in their non-residential camp at National Council of sports, Lugoogo. The Bomber’s team comprises Catherine Nanziri, Shadir Musa Bwogi and Kavuma David Ssemujju.
Nanziri came number four in Africa after Rabab Cheddar of Morocco, Roumaysa Boulam of Algeria and Christine Ongare of Kenya who beat her in the box off.
Ssemujju Kavuma David (28) to face African top bloom Younes Nemouchi of Algeria, who defeated him in the Semi-Final in Dakar. Ssemujju is joint-fifth in the World men’s middleweight and second in Africa with 300 points.
