Vipers SC’s center forward Richard Basangwa’s lone strike was the only difference between Uganda’s Under 20 and Tanzania U20 national teams in the build match ahead of the Total U20 Africa Championships in the highly contested game played at Chamazi stadium.
Aziz Kayondo set up Basangwa in 43rd minute to head in from a resultant free kick to give Uganda a half time lead.
Uganda Hippos could have doubled the lead in 57th minute through penalty after a hand ball by Tanzania players in forbidden area but Ivan Bogere missed it.
Two players who were part of Uganda Cranes Chan team in Cameroon started the game and these includes Aziz Kayondo and Boboosi Byaruhanga.
Morley Byekwaso made his substitutions in 65′ when he introduced in Steven Serwada and Joseph Bukenya came in for Najib Yiga and Ivan Bogere.
He further made more substitutions in 78th as Andrew Kawooya and Sam Senyonjo came in for Ibrahim Mugulusi and Derrick Kakooza.
Bebe Cool’s son Moses Ssali Alpha also got some playing time when he replaced goal scorer Basangwa Richard and Faizal Wabyona came in for Byaruhanga Boboosi.
Uganda Hippos will play their final test match against Namibia before they fly out on 10th February to Mauritania for the tournament.
