Gor Mahia FC defeated AFC Leopards in penalty shoot outs 4-1 after playing to a goalless draw in the 65th edition of Betway Shield Cup Final played at Newly refurbished Nyayo stadium.
Former Vipers SC and KCCA FC attacking winger, Tito Okello and Ugandan defender Fred Nkata won their first title with K’ogalo.
Okello joined Gor Mahia at the beginning of 2020/21 season whereas Nkata joined in February this year.
South Sudan international player (Tito Okello) who finished off with four goals in the in tournament played the entire game while Nkata was unused substitute as Gor clinched their record 9th Shield title.
Gor Mahia had gone 9 years without tasting the victory of cup and won first title under stewardship of Coach Carlos Vaz Pinto.
Sydney Ochieng, Kenneth Muguna, Sammuel Onyango and Clifton Miheso converted Gor Mahia’s penalties.
While Washington Munene converted the only penalty for AFC Leopards, and Isaac Kipyegon, Said Tsuma failed to convert theirs.
Uganda Cranes goalie, Benjamin Ochan missed the final.
Gor Mahia won 2,000,000 Ksh as prize money and earned ticket to represent Kenya in next season’s CAF Confederation Cup which kicks start in September this year with Preliminary round games.
