Stella Chesang Wins National Cross Country Championships


Stella Chesang powered to a deserved victory at the Ugandan Cross Country Championships held on Saturday in Tororo.

Chesang who won gold at the 2018 Commonwealth Games in 10,000m in Gold Coast, clocked 33:57 in a 10km race in Tororo.

She fended off competition from Prisca Chesang (34:06) and Annet Chelangat (34:13) who finished second and third in that order.

In the Men’s category, Martin Kiprotich Magengo was the winner in a time of 29:35 ahead of Isaac Kibet and Samuel Kibet.

Joshua Cheptegei and Jacob Kiplimo, who won gold and silver respectively in Aarhus three years ago, were not present in Tororo.

Uganda Athletics Federation will use the event in Tororo to select representatives for the World Athletics Cross Country Championships in Bathurst 23 on 18 February.

Kenneth Kiprop (29:29, 10km) and Isella Chebet (20:36, 6km) won the Men and Women U20 categories respectively.
