Onyango rates highly retired Tonny Mawejje.

Former Uganda Cranes captain, Denis Masinde Onyango has hailed midfielder maestro Tonny Mawejje who officially announced his retirement from the beautiful game of football.

Onyango and Mawejje played together at the national team and were both part of the Uganda Cranes team that played in the 2017 African Cup Nations that were held in Gabon after missing in playing in final tournament for nearly a four decade.

Tonny Mawejje played his last game on 21st May 2022 at St Mary’s stadium, Kitende as his Police FC were thumped 5-0 by hosts Vipers SC.

Mamelodi Sundowns goalkeeper, has rated Mawejje highly as one of his best midfielders he has played with and wished him the best.

“Happy retirement to one of the midfielders I had an opportunity to play with, Tonny Mawejje nicknamed Wadulifu. he was unplayable on his day and watching him glide up the pitch in his pomp was a joy. Mawejje was incredible a d can’t get over just how good he was. Thank you and all the best, legend.” Onyango posted on his Facebook page.

Tonny retired at the age of 35 years and had played for several clubs, both locally and international the likes of KCCA FC, Police FC, URA FC, Golden Arrows, Haugesund, Valur, Tirana and Al Arabi SC.
