Uganda Cranes head Milutin ‘Micho’ Sredojevic has replaced Livingston Mbabazi with Moses Basena as his assistant coach on his back room staff.
“Uganda Cranes Head coach Milutin Sredojevic has named Moses Basena as replacement for Livingstone Mbabazi in the position of assistant coach of the National Senior team.” Reads FUFA statement on website.
“Mbabazi opted to remain at his club yet FUFA’s objective is to have a National team coach who is not attached to any club.”
“The Head coach has a contractual mandate to name his backroom staff.”
Mbabazi is contracted at Uganda Premier League newbies Arua Hills SC and has opted to stay with them.
Basena reunites with Micho in the Uganda Cranes fold, he worked with him in his first tenure as Cranes head coach and together guided Uganda to the 2017 African Cup of Nations breaking a 39 year jinx of not qualifying to Africa Cup of Nations.
He also worked with him at Sports Club Villa in early in 2002-4 .
Moses Basena has been working with Rwanda Premier League outfit Sun Rise FC last season and his contract got expired.
Uganda Cranes is in high gear preparations for the upcoming 2022 World Cup Qualifiers next month (September) against Kenya and Mali.
