Lower your expectations – Magogo to Ugandans

In the face of most Ugandan football fans, the Cranes underperformed at the recently concluded African Nations Championship (CHAN) in Algeria.

The Milutin ‘Micho’ Sredojevic coached side on the sixth attempt, yet again failed to leave the group, finishing third in Group B with four points.

“We expected to get out of the group,” FUFA President Moses Magogo said at the Cranes post-CHAN luncheon on Sunday at FUFA House, Mengo.

Magogo added: “But although we didn’t achieve the target, there were a lot of positives.”

He also asserted that Ugandans ought to be patient, and have fewer expectations as the team is undergoing transition.

“Ours is a journey, it (CHAN) wasn’t just an event but it’s part of the process of transition which happens to all the best teams in the world.”

“Transitions all over the world involve painful results for the fans, but we picked positives from a technical point of view.”

“As Ugandans, our expectations should be less for most of our players to transition into the product we want to see,” added Magogo.

A section of the Ugandan faithful continues to criticize Micho’s style of play, with some calling for a local coach to take the reigns, like other nations.

“It’s not just about the local coaches, because we have given them opportunities, we have 27 national team coaching jobs, and 26 are Ugandans.”

“But we are working on programs that will continue to grow the capacity of our local coaches,” Magogo noted.

Magogo is optimistic the Cranes are headed in the right direction, and that it’ll only be a matter of time before success is eventually reached at.
