It was a night to celebrate for all Ugandans as 19 year old 5000m and 10000m runner, Jacob Kiplimo rose onto occasion during the 5000m race in IAAF Golden spike in Ostrava, Czech Republic, yesterday night 8. September.
Kiplimo had to out muscle Ethiopian Selemon Barega to win the 5000m race in space of 12:48:60. Becoming the second Ugandan to win a gold medal for the country in a space of not than six weeks after Joshua Kiptegei doing it in style winning the 5000m race in Monaco IAAF Diamond League in August this year and breaking the world record of Kenenisa Bekele which had stood for 16 years with a new time record of 12:35:36.
Jacob Kiplimo set his personal best time of 13:48.63 since his previous best time finish has been 13:13.
Italian, Crippa Yemareberhan came third to complete three man podium with Jacob Kiplimo coming in the first position and Ethiopian Selemon Barega following in the second position.
Earlier on, female Ugandan, Winnie Nanyondo had participated in 1500m race and managed a 9th position finish.
Jacob Kiplimo is a winner of 2017 IAAF world cross championship that were held in Kampala Kololo, and won it at the age of 16.
