Ugandan Athlete Jacob Kiplimo wins the world Athletics Half Marathon Championship in Gdynia -Poland as he sets Championship record of 58:49 smashing Geoffrey Kamworor’s record of 59:08 which had stood for six years.
Kenyan Kibiwott Konde came a second set time of 58:54 and Ethiopian Amedework Wallegn finished third to complete the podium.
10,000 meter and 5000-meter record-breaker Joshua Cheptegei who looked favourite to win the championship finished fourth setting personal best time of 59:08.
Other two Uganda male Athletes who took part in the event, Victor Kiplangat and Stephen Kissa finished 16th and 19th position setting 1:00.29 and 1:00.34 times respectively.
Meanwhile, the women Half Marathon race was dominated by Kenyan Jepchirchir Peres who set the World record in women’s race of 1:05.16, Germany Melat Yisak Kejeta came second and Ethiopian Yalemzerf Yehualaw finishing third.
Ugandan Juliet Chekwel attained the best finish in the event for Uganda, coming in 14th position setting a national record 1:08.38, Doreen Chemutai and Doreen Chesang finished 17th, 30th position with 1:10.18, 1:11.04 respectively and all set personal best times.
Rachael Zena Chebet the fourth Ugandan female athlete finished in 57th position with 1:12.50 time.
The world Athletics Half Marathon Championship has been held after two years since 1992 and this was the 24th edition with 25 edition set to take place in 2022 in Yangzhou China.
