It’s now two months since the country mourned the departure of veteran football Jimmy Kirunda a.k.a Kaiser one of most talented players Uganda had as an inspiration to young talents.

The most integral and tactical footballer domestically played for Sc Villa Jogoos team in 1980s winning Uganda Cup in 1983 and league in 1982.

He’s known to have had good partnership play with Paul Hasule making Sc Villa emerge unbeaten in the 1982 season with total of 13 goals which made him Sportsman of year.

Kirunda’s leadership style made him triumph five times as player in CECAFA cup winning in 1969,70,73,76 &77.Not only did he play for Uganda Cranes but also managed it three times in 1989,1990 and 1992.

Kirunda’s creative, technical and command playing nature enabled him to assume on pitch leadership as captain of 1978 African Cup of Nations final where Uganda Cranes completed as runners-up during Idi Amin’s direct rule.

Uganda Cranes players were so motivated by the Idi Amin Dada who strongly loved sports. His motivating quotes and resources motivated players at the time to defeat whichever team they encountered.

However, very absurd that most of Kirunda’s playmates are struggling to survive under ruling government that hardly arranged for their retirement benefits citing from mysterious death of former Uganda Cranes Captains.

Late Jimmy Kirunda will always be remembered for his outstanding performance in Uganda’s sports.
