Uganda Cranes 1 – 0 South Sudan.
Vipers SC defender, Halid Lwalila who came in as substitute for injured Mukiibi Ronald headed in 86th minute of the game geared Uganda Cranes to victory over Bright Stars of South Sudan to tighten their grip at the top of the group B of African Cup of Nations Qualifiers on match day 3 in the game played at Astro turf of St Mary’s Stadium Kitende.
The first half was more less eventful with both sides creating no open chances.
Uganda Cranes first chance came in 12th minute of the game when Miya Farouk was fouled near an 18 yard box but when Ochaya stood up to take the free kick, it hit the wall.
Before the end of first half in 40th minute, Miya Farouk got also free kick but South Sudan Goalkeeper stood firm to punch it into play.
Mbarara City FC forward Makueth Wol could have hurt Uganda in 24′ when debutant Elvis Bwonomo was beaten on the right wing which forced Onyango from his line to close him to give away a throw in for South Sudan.
In the second half as the game went on with Uganda piling on more pressure to South Sudan defence with the introduction of Allan Okello for Emmanuel Okwi in 60th minute.
Luwaga Kizito and Aucho Khalid got some good chances but none was converted.
Mcknistry was forced to make a substitute when Ronald Mukiibi got an Injury and goal scorer was introduced in 70th minute.
In the 75th Allan Okello hit the lower post after good inter plays with Luwaga Kizito.
Uganda Cranes made double substitutions in the last 10 minutes of the game, Derrick Nsibambi paved way for Karim Watambala and Aucho Khalid paved way for Edrisa Lubega.
Uganda Cranes defender Joseph was booked in 83rd minute.
Uganda Cranes goal arrived in 86th minute of the game when Joseph Ochaya was fouled in left wing and Miya Farouk’s free kick connected with Halid Lwalila’s header to put the ball at the back of the net, Halidwas making his debut for Cranes senior team.
After playing to the three added mintes Congo Brazaville center, Messie Jessie Nkounkou referee blew the final whistle to end the game with Uganda taking the whole 3 points.
This win takes Uganda Cranes to top of group B on 7 points from three games as they wait on the results from Burkina Faso- Malawi tie which kicks start later on in the night.
