The Federation of Uganda Basketball Association has suspended all leagues of the different divisions and tournaments until further notice.
FUBA based on the State of the Nation address by the President of the Republic of Uganda Yoweri Kaguta Museveni and further guidelines from the ministry of Health on the COVID-19 pandemic
The statement from the Federation dated 18th, March, 2020 reads,
“We have decided to postpone all leagues of the different divisions and tournaments
until further notice.
The health of our athletes, officials, fans and the entire basketball fraternity is
paramount at this trying moment.”
Although no cases of Covid -19 have been
reported in Uganda so far, it is important that we work as a team and take
protective and preventive measures to counter the possible spread of this epidemic
to our fraternity, families and the public at large.”
“This is to, therefore, urge all of you to follow the Ministry of Health and World Health Organization Guidelines for the health and safety of our people. We shall keep you posted in case the situation normalizes and or after clearance from the government and Ministry of Health.” – Reads the statement signed by the FUBA President Nasser Sserunjogi.
This Friday, UCU Lady Canons were to lock horns with KIU Rangers while JKL Dolphins were to take on City Oilers Basketball Club.
President Museveni banned public gatherings include sports activities, music concerts, weddings, burials, educational centers (primary, secondary and universities), worship from religious places churches and mosques, public markets, hotels, malls, as well as a quarantine for people coming back to the country among other means. The ban will last for 32 days.
