Two of the Kenyan most successful and archi rivals Clubs, Gor Mahia FC and AFC Leopards SC both failed to honor a league game scheduled yesterday 31st July 2021 at Thika Stadium.
And from there, Football Kenya Federation (FKF) body through it’s competitions rules committee has come out to issues fines and suspend two of both club chairmen.
Events to the controversies.
A day before the scheduled game, Gor Mahia FC and AFC Leopards management wrote a joint letter directed to Football governing body (FKF) notifying them that they will not honour the Mashemeji derby in case they ( federation) fails to wire the prize money of the Betway FKF shield Cup which they are supposed to get .
Gor Mahia FC won the Cup final at newly refurbished Nyayo stadium over AFC Leopards Curtesy of penalty kicks (4-1) after playing to a goalless draw in normal time on 4th July 2021.
Gor Mahia FC as Champions were entitled to pocket Ksh 2M and AFC Leopards Ksh 1M as runners up.
Since the climax of the cup final until the time of controversies the money have not wired on to two clubs accounts as clubs claim the sponsor has already issued out the package to the Federation.
Therefore, FKF have fined AFC Leopards Ksh 6M being the host of the game and Gor Mahia the away team have been slapped a fine of Ksh 4M
Both teams have been deducted 3 points each as per article 3.1.6 of rules and regulations governing Kenya Football, which states.
“3.1.6. In the event that a team or both teams in a scheduled fixture fails to turn up or turn(s) up for the match but refuse(s) to play, either team or both shall be docked three (3) points and two (2) goals from those already accumulated or those to be accumulated. Additional sanctions may be imposed on the team(s).”
Furthermore, the two club chairmen Ambrose Rochier and Dan Shikanda of Gor Mahia, AFC Leopards respectively have been provisionally suspended by the FKF National Executive committee for putting the game into disrepute.
“In the meantime, the FKF National Executive Committee has provisionally suspended Gor Mahia and AFC Leopard’s chairmen Mr. Ambrose Rachier and Dan Shikanda, pending disciplinary action constituted against them. The FKF Disciplinary Committee shall recommend sanctions (if any) against the two for adoption by the NEC.” Reads part of Statement released by FKF
