Cheptegei, Chesang Win San Silvestre Vallecana Races

Joshua Cheptegei and Prisca Chesang ended 2022 in style with victories at the San Silvestre Vallecana 10km event in Madrid Spain on Saturday.

Cheptegei, a World Record holder, World Champions and Olympic gold medalist, clocked 27:09.

He beat Spain’s Mohammed Katir by 10 seconds to deny him a chance to defend the title he won last year.

But Cheptegei’s time was still lower than Jacob Kiplimo’s 26:39 event record which his Ugandan compatriot set in 2018.

And the World Record was still out of his reach as well, still standing at 26:24 set by Kenya’s Rhonex Kipruto he set in 2020.

Chesang on the other hand, clocked 30:19 to send off resistance from Burundian Francine Niyonsaba (30:58) while Kenyan Beatrice Chepkoech finished third in a time of 31:06.
