CHAN 2022: Tunisia camp prepared Cranes beyond the pitch – Ssematimba

After concluding the first phase of their preparations for the 2022 African Nations Championship in Uganda during the festive season, the Uganda Cranes took their second and final phase to Tunisia.

Head coach Milutin ‘Micho’ Sredojevic indicated that they were looking for a competitive touch and acclimatization, and midfielder-cum forward, Titus Ssematimba could not agree more.

“I believe we have gained more from this training camp in Tunisia as a team because we have competed against strong teams and also acclimatized to the weather,” Ssematimba told FUFA media.

“The weather here is different from the weather back home in Uganda but this camp in Tunisia has helped us to adapt.”

“Although it was not easy at the start as time went on we get used to it and when we got to Algeria we shall be in a position to play in such conditions,” he noted.

Ssematimba and his teammates played three friendlies against Sudan, Cameroon, and Mali and drew all 2-2, 1-1, and 0-0 respectively.

“On the pitch, we have played well because every player was committed that is why we have not lost any of the games despite playing against strong opposition.”

“Generally, the way we have handled these games I believe that we shall be able to pick good results from the final tournament,” the optimistic Wakiso Giants player stated.

In the aftermath of the draw against Mali, Micho heaped praise on Ssematimba for his brilliant display noting that he will play an integral part for Uganda in the CHAN tournament.

The Pearl of Africa’s CHAN tournament gets underway against the Democratic Republic of Congo on Saturday, January, 14th, 2023.

African giant nations of Senegal and Ivory Coast are the other two teams in the Cranes Group B.
