CHAN 2022: Maiden knockout ticket in sight for Uganda

Uganda Cranes stunned continental powerhouse Senegal, edging them 1-0 in the second match of the African Nations Championship (CHAN) on Wednesday.

Milton Karisa struck in the 33rd minute at the 19 May Stadium, Annaba to guide the Cranes to a memorable victory in Algeria.

It could have been a different story earlier on but Uganda’s goalkeeper Nafian Alionzi superbly stopped Cheikh Sidibe from 12 yards in the 25th minute.

Alionzi was brilliant throughout the entire game, but his second most impactful save came in the 89th minute as he saved brilliantly from a Mousa Kante strike.

Before that, Senegal’s substitute Libasse Ngom was sent off for a foul on Uganda’s substitute Karim Watambala in the 84th minute.

Less than a minute later, Karisa latched on a Travis Mutyaba pass, trying to make it two, but struck wide before he was withdrawn for Hillary Mukundane.

Uganda now top Group B with four points in two games ahead of the second placed Lions of Teranga who are on three.
