The Atlas of Lions (Morocco) perfectly retained the Total Africa Nations Championships title with 2-0 victory over Mali in the game played in night of Sunday at Ahmadou Ahidjo stadium in Younde Cameroon to become the first country to do so in the tournament exclusively designed for only home based players.
Two second half headers from Abdelmouna and captain Ayoub El Kaabi were enough to down Mali and hand Morocco their second successive title after the 2018 triumph on the home soil.
In Morocco’s run of play to the title, it’s only Rwanda that denied them 3 points after playing to goalless draw at the group stage.
Mali was playing their first final in the tournament.
Morocco won title, gold medals and $2.5 millions as prize money and runners (Mali) walk away with silver medal plus $700,000 in prize money.
Meanwhile the other two semi finalist in Cameroon (hosts) and Congo Brazaville who eventually finished 3rd in tournament each pocketed $400,000.
Algeria will host the next 7th edition of the tournament in 2023 consequently which was supposed to be in 2022 but due Corona virus affected the whole organization and was pushed to a year later.
