CECAFA U23: Kickoff dates extended to a later date.

The Council for East and Central Football Association (CECAFA) in conjunction with it’s member associations has decided to push further the kick off dates of 2021 CECAFA U23 Championship to a new date.

Ethiopia are the hosts of this year’s Championship which was slated to kick start on next week July 3rd, 2021, but has now moved to July 17th, 2021 in Bahir.

“The cecafa U23 Championship has been pushed to kickoff July 17th, 2021 in Bahir Ethiopia. Competition was earlier slated to start July 3rd, 2021.” Reads part of the statement released by CECAFA.

South Sudan national football team with some of their players and technical bench being quarantined in Doha, Qatar after testing positive for Covid-19 prior to off of the FIFA Arab Cup has been highlighted as some of the reasons why the general Secretaries of the member associations decided to extend the competition for further two weeks.

“The change was also made because the South Sudan technical bench and some of their players are currently being quarantined in Doha, Qatar after attending the FIFA Arab Cup and will only travel on 7th of July, while the league in Tanzania is still ongoing and will be completed on 18th July 2021 with some players only neiny available to travel after it’s complete.”

Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) are expected to grace this year’s tourney as guest which was decided to accommodate only players below the age of 23.

Rwanda and Somalia will not take part in the tournament with their  reasons best  known to them.

Uganda are the defending Champions which they won in 2019 and last year was not held due to Covid-19 pandemic.

Below includes the countries which have already confirmed their participation in the tournament; Ethiopia (hosts), Tazania, Kenya, Uganda, Burundi, Djbouti, Eritrea, Zanzibar, South Sudan, DRC (guest) and Sudan.
