AFCON: Uganda Cranes group opponent secures an international friendly.

Ahead of the return of the 2021 African Cup of Nations cup qualifiers games in November, several countries have come out to set up friendlies matches as part of their preparations.

Uganda Cranes’ group B opponents, the Bright Stars of South Sudan have secured an international friendly with five-time AFCON holders. (1984, 1988, 2000 2002 and 2017) indomitable Lions of Cameroon.

The match is set to take place on 10th October 2020 in Yaounde as the South Sudan football association came out today to confirm the development via their Facebook page.

“South Sudan Football Association (SSFA) has accepted an invitation by the Cameroon Federation to play a friendly match against their National Team A and Bright Stars on 10th October 2020 in Yaounde. SSFA will soon summon the Bright Stars squad.” SSFA statement.

In a CAF executive meeting that was held on 30th June 2020 via video conferencing, they agreed to postpone the 2021 African Cup of Nations that was supposed to be held in Cameroon to 2022 in January as well as the 2020 African Nations Championship to 2021.

CAF also came out with a revised 2020/21 calendar with the 2021 Afcon qualifiers games that were supposed to be held in March this year for matchday 3 and 4, are rescheduled on the week of 9-17 November 2020.

Meanwhile, for matchday 5 and 6, will be played on the week of 22-30 March next year 2021.

South Sudan will be facing Cameroon for the first time in history.

South Sudan is ranked 168 in the latest FIFA rankings that were conducted in July compared to Cameroon who is ranked number 53rd in the whole world.

Bright Stars of South Sudan are coached by German-born Coach, Cyprian Besong Ashu.

South Sudan will be facing Uganda Cranes in a doubleheader tie between 9-17 November in group B.

South Sudan is lying at the bottom of the group without a point having lost all their two opening games against Malawi and Burkina Faso, 1-0 and 2-1 respectively.

Uganda is leading group B tied on points (4) with Burkina Faso and Malawi comes third on 3 points.

South Sudan has never appeared in the Africa Cup of Nations final tournament.

Other Countries lining up international friendly matches includes.

Nigerian who is set to play Tunisia and Ivory Coast next month.

South African is also preparing two friendly matches with two unconfirmed countries in Cosafa region.
