Uganda football fans were shocked when Police FC goal keeper Derrick Ochan was sent off in the 40th minute by referee George Olemu after consultations from his second assistant referee Juma Osire.
This verdict from the referee left Police Football Club head coach Abdallah Mubiru furious and enraged. He said to the Media that “it is very unfortunate that we had to lose the game after a ridiculous decision against us, but regardless we congratulate the Champions Vipers for the victory and 3 points. I have been able to view footage of the incident (that led to the Ochan red card) but there is no way that was a red card”.
“It is rather harsh to Ochan and his teammates that they had to take such a blow and in the moment that the game was in over a poor and disappointing error by the referees”.
“Unfortunately we cannot change the result because that is behind us, but we shall definitely appeal to tie authorities to revoke the red card because it was never a foul in the first place”, he continued.
Not only the fans and head coach were furious about that decision but also, Police FC chairman Asan Kasingye who took actions to protest the red card has called out the Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) to go ahead and ban him for his actions at St Mary’s Stadium as his side lost 3-2 to Vipers on Friday evening.
Kasingye left his seat in the executive wing of the stadium, stormed to the playing ground, and protested a red card to the Police goalkeeper Derrick Ochan.
Derrick Ochan is expected to miss the Wednesday clash against Onduparaka & one against Bright Stars on February 26th from the Uganda Premier League.
