CAF Champions league record cup holders (8), Al Ahly defeated 0-2) Wydad Athletic Club of Morocco in first epic of semi finals of the CAF Champions league to set one foot into the finals.
Al Ahly’s forward Mohammed Magdy Asfar capitalize on Wydad Athletic Club’s defender’s mistake to slot in the ball at the back of the net to put red devils into the lead as early as 5 minutes.
Wydad could have levelled the matters before the end of first half when Gbagbo Junior raced Al Ahly’s goalkeeper Mohammed El Shenaawy to make foul inside the box area and Zambia referee Janny Sikaziwe made no mistake to a ward penalty even before the checking on VAR.
Badie Aouk stepped up to take the penalty and El Shenaawy needed double saves to stop it and game ending half time when Al Ahly leading (0-1).
Hussein El Sahat could have doubled Al Ahly lead in 56th minute when he failed to beat Wydad’s custodian Ahmed Reda Tagnaout on one on one situation.
Three minutes later, Ahly was awarded a penalty when, Wydad defenders handed Ajayi Junior’s shot and Ali Maaloul stepped up to send Reda on wrong direction to double Al Ahly’s lead. (0-2).
Wydad’s defeat to Ahly, ends their 26th match unbeaten run at home in Caf CAF Champions league and the last one coming in 2016 against same Al Ahly.
